What’s In a Desi Movement?

The buzz words movement, fusion, and influence are all surrounding the Desi scene. As I talk to artists and media there seems to be no real sense of what the Desi Movement is or what it includes. Does the idea of the spread of Desi culture only include South Asian artists or can non-desis also contribute to this “movement”? If we talk about mainstream Desi faces in music, we can refer to M.I.A. and Jay Sean. M.I.A.
