David Letterman sat down to interview Shah Rukh Khan. He learned about Khan’s global success, his family, and his journey to fame. The segment is refreshingly real and candid and truly a great depiction of the legacy Shah Rukh Khan has created.
David Letterman’s Netflix excusive series is titled “My Next Guest,” and while Shah Rukh Khan got an intro, Letterman said that this interview “may be at the top of the list” of people he has learned from.
Most interviews conducted with Shah Rukh Khan are done with a fan or calculated host. Nothing recently has shown off Khan’s charisma or highlighted how well-spoken he is; credit goes to David Letterman.
A rich 72-years old, Letterman has been hosting, newscasting, and announcing since his college days. In 1975, David Letterman packed his things and moved to Los Angeles where he launched his career. By 1980, Letterman had his own morning comedy show on NBC. This shifted to late night two years later and the rest is history. In 2015, Letterman stepped away from traditional TV allowing him to recalibrate his career leading to this Netflix series (Wikipedia).
While we, as a desi community, are familiar with Shah Rukh Khan, this interview with David Letterman is still filled with fun nuggets of new or renewed information regarding Khan. We witnessed his interactions with fans, a normal family dinner with wife Gauri, and precious moments with son Abram. While his older two kids Aryan and Suhana were not part of the interview, they came up in conversation time and time again.
Family to work, humble beginnings to success. Whether you are a SRK fan or not, the one-hour special on Netflix is worth watching. Seriously, go watch it, you won’t regret it.
