Nabela Noor is a beauty influencer who thrives through platforms such as YouTube and Instagram. She carries her Bengali culture on her sleeve and promotes self-love with each business move she makes. Through these qualities (and a 1+ million loyal following), she has caught the attention of the cosmetics company E.L.F. resulting in a new collaborative collection.
The collection is quite small in my opinion. There is a 5-brush makeup brush set, a loose powder highlighter, and a lip liner & liquid lipstick duo. If you buy the entire collection, you’ll also get a a gold clutch with mehndi (henna) designs drawn by Nabela.
The highlight looks good, classic shimmer and shine. The lippie is a rich nude shade,; this feels the most “Desi” in the collection, truly taking into account our deeper skin tones. Lastly, the hot pink brushes includes a Powder Brush, Highlighting Brush, Stipple Brush, Flat Eyeliner Brush and Crease Brush. I would have to test the brushes to make a comment.
Calling a beauty collection an opportunity to be inclusive to all people, intimately the South Asian fam, I was expecting more face products. Minorities struggle to find the right foundations, concealers, and color correctors. How do brushes exhibit inclusivity?
The collection was released on Oct. 6 with a full, South Asian infused affair. Before the party, Nabela used Instagrm to share “A Bangladeshi-American, plus sized, Muslim girl has her very own makeup collection with @elfcosmetics. A collection celebrating her South Asian heritage and individual beauty. I wouldn’t believe anyone if they told me those sentences growing up. I can confidently say that younger Nabela would have felt less like an outsider if this existed throughout my adolescence. It is surreal to be celebrating today what so many people have wanted me to apologize for.”
On ElfCosmetics Instagram page, the caption reads, “you CAN sit with us – e.l.f. xo @Nabela launches 10/6 on elfcosmetics.com and @ultabeauty 🌟#ItsOctober3rd #MeanGirlsDay 💖#elfingamazing #elfcosmetics#crueltyfree #vegan”
The E.L.F xo Nabela Noor collection is a group of products described as universally-flattering that pay homage Nabela: a South Asian woman who in her childhood viewed drugstore beauty luxury.
Are you impressed with these products or were you expecting something different from Nabela and E.L.F.?
