Could Panjeba be the holiday season hit? I know I already have to song stuck in my head! Sung by Jasmine Sandlas, produced by Manni Sandhu, and written by Kay V Singh, this song is a collaboration across 3 nations!
Jasmine spends her time between India and the U.S. Kay V Singh is based in America and Manni sits in England. Each region has it’s own vibe and community and we get such a fun curation each country’s flavors in Panjeba.
Leading up to the release of the song, Manni and Jasmine engaged in a Twitter battle over the release of the song. Arguments over the official release date for Panjeba had each artist agitated. Now all on one page and a video featuring both Jasmine and Manni, you have to wonder, was the online spat a media tactic to increase the awareness and excitement for Panjeba’s release? If so, it’s not the way to show collaborative efforts and growth in the scene, but we wouldn’t be the only music scene adopting such behaviors.
Back to the track, the video focuses less on Panjeba and takes on the form a grunge and dance. Seen on a set and in a cage, dancers are in their western gear. Jasmine stands out in her authentic Punjabi suits, my favorite being the maroon complete with a paranda.
Jasmine Sandlas gets in on the dance fun with a few choreographed moves which we are sure fans will be doing with her when she performs. While I try to master the steps myself I leave you to enjoy the track.
