Jaz Dhami and Arjun have come together to create the track “Running Away.” Being referred to as a collaboration long-time coming by Jaz Dhami’s camp, I know I am very excited by the collaboration and the quality of the track we now have streaming on our phones.
‘Running Away’ has been produced by Birmingham-natives V!V and Amaar Baz (formerly known as the Studio Pirates). One could say this single is a British affair, but North America’s Kay V Singh jumps into the creative process as cowriter.
Arjun on “Running Away” Collab
“Jaz and I have been friends for many years now so this song felt like a great opportunity to collaborate and fuse our two styles. When Jaz first played me this vibe, the first thing that came to my mind was that its something I’ve never heard in Punjabi before – the trap, atmospheric, airy mood of the song felt really fresh.”
Arjun
Jaz adds the pair had been talking about getting in the studio for a while, “The song had to be right, and we both had to be in the same country! Mad to think how quickly this actually happened, we’re recording the song one week, the following week we’re in South London shooting the video.”
Music Video Vision
British roots in the forefront, Jaz Dhami had a vision for the video “the song is so wavey, so vibey that I needed that to be reflected in the energy of the video. Arjun and I had never done a song like this before, so I wanted to make a video I’d never made before, Adeel Kureshii executed that vision to a T.”
The video is a combination of 3 vibes. We see the gentlemen in a card game where the stakes keep going up, then a parking lot of storage unit(?), follow-up by cutaway in a convenience store. The dark, grunge vibe is accented with neon touches. The convenience store is visually odd, but I guess if you’re Running Away, you’ll need to take a snack break?
Check out “Running Away” and decide if this is a winter 2020 hit.
