Jaz Dhami, an urban Punjabi artist from the U.K., has released the video for his latest single “Bomb Bae.” As the title suggests, the artist is pictured alongside his Bae, but is she even there?
The darker tones and nods to the rainy, cold weather are perfectly apt as we head into November. More relevant for India as it experiences monsoon season. Per the track’s title, Mumbai is where this love story takes place. Between the bright lights and fast moving traffic, we see Jaz in a sleek hotel, riding in a rickshaw in the rain, and finally performing in a club.
Our Bomb Bae appears in lush colors throughout the video. It is not until Jaz is cruising down the highway that we see Bae fade like a holograph. Just as she disappears and Jaz Dhami finds himself alone, Bae appears in the club where Jaz is performing, so is she there?
A notable mention: Oppo Reno 2 (Series) smart phone occupies the screen at 3 moments in the video. With such heavy branding, I hope Oppo invested in this video for that screen time.
The high quality shots and Mumbai B-roll show no significance without setting the scene. Flashy phone, flashy car, can we please take a moment to recognize the six outfits Jaz Dhami sported in his Bomb Bae video.
Bomb Bae Fashion
First, a check blazer gets a country twist with sparkly tassels. Not my fave look, but I appreciate Jaz making the bold choice. Next a printed silk shirt, similar to those you see in Punjabi videos; this is one of two, the second seen at the end of the video when Jaz Dhami performs in the club. Two more outfits are similar with crisp white – Jaz Dhami, is white your favorite color? Both looks are comfortable, casual, yet pieced together with an air of sophistication. For the final look, which slips in the middle in montage clips, Jaz dons a tan coat with scalloped detailing – something I have not seen worn by anyone else.
Whether it’s the bold production by Eren E, the smooth voice of Jaz Dhami, or the visual appeal of the Bomb Bae video, you’ll find something to enjoy with this tune.
