According to Variety.com, the Desi spinoff of “Fresh of the Boat” is still in talks. In fact, the production is moving along with Preity Zinta and Vir Das as leading cast.
In the same report from Variety, we learned that an episode of ‘Fresh Off the Boat’ will be shot in mid-November to introduce the potential new characters seeding the storyline for the spinoff, working-title “Magic Motor Inn.”
The showcased Indian family’s daughter attends school with the kid-lead in Fresh Off The Boat. Vir Das plays the dad and Preity Zinta plays the mom. Rachna Fruchbom , “Fresh Off the Boat” writer, Rachna Fruchbom will take lead on writing.
This will be a nice feather in Das’ and Zinta’s cap as they both have robust careers. Preity Zinta is a recognized Hindi film star. Off-screen, she’s a producer, writer and a regular stage performer. Zinta is credited with a Filmfare best actress award and earned the title of most powerful entertainer of the decade 2000- 2010 award by the Indian International Film Awards & Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry. Vir Das is his glory is also a Bollywood actor and globally known comedian. His career reached new heights with his Netflix stand up specials “Abroad Understanding” and “Losing It.”
With such an exciting cast, we cannot neglect to highlight the success of “Fresh Off the Boat.” The series debuted in 2015. A Taiwanese-American family lives in Florida where they run a cowboy themed restaurant. The show explores cultural identitiRachna Fruchbom es, assimilating, and does so with a touch of comedy.
There are definitely big shoes to fill following the succesful of “Fresh Off the Boat,” but the line up of talent is promising. Will this be the crossover television show Desis have been waiting for?
